“Thousand Dollar Project”
2007, 15 minutes Performance
I selected members of the audience
that were in need of a manicure or
pedicure, were not ticklish,
were able to sing or speak loudly,
had a good sense of hearing, or were
able to blink their eyes rapidly.
These audience members were invited
to make sounds during the performance
using a bucket of water, fingernail
clipper, and their voice. After the
performance, all the people in the
gallery were paid a thousand dollar
check, which was post-dated for the
year three thousand seven. After the
performance, the documentation (video
and checks) was exhibited at the gallery.
